It’s hard to define, now that I’m trying to explain what I did differently lol.
I wanted skin to look realistic, and have “weight,” so I worked extra hard on soft blending using the watercolor tool in SAI. I tried to treat everything as a sphere of sorts when blending. I started with adding dark colors along the outiside (super dark) and most of the interior using the pen or brush tool, then added lighter colors to it gradually to build light using a low-opacity watercolor tool.
I also started using the eye-drop tool almost as often as I applied strokes of color to keep everything consistent.
Oh and everything I blended was on the same layer! That makes a difference (in SAI at least).
It’s hard to explain because it’s not much different to what I normally do, except I tried to cover/blend all sketchyness and I attempted to use darker colors to shade. Without SAI’s watercolor brush everything would probably look horrible lol.
This probably wasn’t very helpful. Everthing I said sounds pretty common haha. If only I could make a video or something. If you had specific questions about something I might be able to elaborate. :o
