Perspective in nature and why it sucks

blackash:

I’m trying to answer some of Salacia’s questions. First a disclaimer, I am not the best when it comes to perspective. I may be/probably am wrong about most things, these are just my experiences. Please feel free to correct and add things.

Since there are no straight lines in nature it can be difficult to establish perspective. Things don’t lie on a flat plane, trees grow in any direction, and rivers bend. But that’s why landscapes can be fun.

Warning: long and kinda confusing!

Ohhhh, thank you so much for taking time out to try and answer some of those questions! You pretty much made a tutorial lmao! 8D

I never really thought about how the vertical lines could come to their own point, as silly as that sounds. I imagine them completely strait, like the horizon. (Although I remember seeing that changed also.) Man that would’ve helped with that thing I just posted. I tried forever to get the angle right, and gave up. xD

I always seem to make backgrounds at the same eye-level, unintentionally, and I’m hoping to break that. All of that information helps me a lot! Thank you so much again Ash for helping me out with that, I’m so grateful!! (o ’ v ’ o)

petit-tyrant:

Ash, this is an awesome tutorial! O: I hope you don’t mind if I filed it away for reference as well. ;3

Organic landscapes aren’t too bad, compared to an industrial background. Like Ash said, everything in nature flows pretty much to its own accord; don’t feel too stressed if a tree looks to be at an odd angle or anything like that. I did a little digging around on DA, and found some cool tutorials:

You’ll do fine, Sala, your landscapes already look awesome. D:

Oh my gosh, I totally forgot about that landscape/atmosphere tuto! Everything it lists on the first page or so is so invaluable to me! I didn’t see the other one either, and it has some things I’ll take away from it also! :D Thank you for linking those!

Ugh yes, honestly I’m glad nature is rather forgiving with angles and everything, but there seems to be some kind of rule-set to draw you in, to add real depth. D8 I’m going to try my hardest to understand! I appreciate your help, and your encouragement! ( ; v ; )

Thank you both again, very much! <3
